| Good News
What is the greatest of all good news? It is clearly that God has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world (1 John 4:14). This is very good news because the world is in desperate need of the Savior. The Bible says in Romans 3:10, that There is none righteous, not even one. Consequently, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Further, the Bible says that all of us as sinners must pay the due penalty for our sins. We must pay this penalty because God is holy and will certainly punish sin (Isaiah 6:3; Romans 1:18). The penalty all must pay is death (Romans 6:23). This is a very serious matter. It means that no matter how hard we might try, we cannot fix the mess we're in. All good works we do, even strict obedience to God's law, cannot counter the weight of sin in our lives (Galatians 2:16). The whole human race is under the death penalty of God because of sin. But the one true God is not only holy; He is also the God of love. He is greatly troubled over the lost state of mankind. So God set out to remedy the problem. We could never be good enough to get into heaven (too late for that), but God could do the work of saving us Himself. He sent someone to fix the problem. John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus was nailed to the cross where He paid the penalty of death for our sins. We do not have to die for our sins because Christ took our death upon Himself so that we could walk free! There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Jesus was willing to die for you because He loves you, and doesn't want to see you pay the awful penalty of eternal death for your sin. He took care of it. But that's not all. Jesus rose from the dead to be the first fruits of resurrection life, proving that those who accept His gift of life by faith shall follow in this new life as well (1 Corinthians 15:20, 21). This work of salvation is complete and delivered to you as a gift. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast (Ephesians 2:8.9). Do you see how your hope in heaven is not based on what you do, but on what God has done for you? Every gift must be received in order to benefit from it. In order for the gift of eternal life to be effective, you must receive it. You cannot receive it by working for it, for it would no longer be a gift, but a reward, and God does not offer salvation by reward (Romans 4:4, 5). You receive this gift by faith. You must abandon all other hope of heaven and commit your trust fully to Christ. Jesus paid it all. ". . Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved . . ." (Acts 16:31). When you accept this free gift by faith, God will be with you at all times throughout your life, molding you and shaping you to fit you for eternal glory in heaven with Him. That's why every true believer desires in his heart to honor God with his life. He repents of his sin because his chief goal in life is to please his Savior. As a Christian, you may stumble but you are forgiven because Christ took care of it on the cross. Heaven is your guaranteed future (1 Peter 1:3-5). Those who want to continue living in their sins and still somehow hope to get a ticket into heaven are not those who take God's offer seriously. They are not real believers at all (James 2:18). Saving faith is a faith that greatly desires the newness of life God offers in Christ. True believers seek to please the One who stepped up for them. They want to please Him with a life of service to Him. This news that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again for us is good news. Will you accept God's indescribable gift? (2 Corinthians 9:15) |
